Harris CapRock Achieves Compliance with Global VSAT Forum Cyber Security Guidelines
WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 16, 2016
Harris CapRock, a premier provider of managed satellite, wireless and terrestrial communications services to energy and maritime markets, today announced that the company is in full compliance with the Satellite Service Provider Security (SSPSec) Cyber-Security Guidelines of the Global VSAT Forum (GVF), a leading trade association representing the satellite communications industry.
The SSPSec establishes how satellite service providers can protect networks and critical components of their infrastructure. This includes ensuring personnel have sufficient training on security, that networks are instrumented to detect and enable an effective response to any potential attack, and to establish incident response procedures within the organization.
“Cyber security is one of our customers’ highest priorities,” said Tracey Haslam, President, Harris CapRock. “Harris CapRock is demonstrating unwavering commitment to following cyber security best practices for its own infrastructure by complying with or exceeding GVF’s SSPSec requirements. This provides added assurance that when it comes to this critical differentiator, Harris CapRock is leading the industry.”
In addition to securing its own networks, Harris CapRock offers comprehensive cyber services for its customers. Quickly becoming an industry standard, SafePass Pro combines the best of content filtering and monitoring with threat management services. As an added ability, clients can benefit from working with cyber security experts to pinpoint system vulnerabilities, monitor insider threats, proactively defend the network and respond to incidents.
“To strengthen defenses against growing cyber threats, GVF has been making strides in advancing a ‘culture of security’, establishing security guidelines for operators and enterprises, and developing processes based on cyber security best practices for the satellite communications sector,” commented David Hartshorn, Secretary General, GVF. “We commend Harris CapRock for their proactive, industry leading commitment to achieving cyber security compliance.”
The GVF’s Cyber Security Task Force – established in 2014 – is comprised of cyber security experts and representatives from across the satellite industry. The Task Force has determined industry best practices by creating specifications requirements for both hardware and software as well as network connectivity.
